D3 MA - Daily training

[Ichiro Taiki]

The weather was - perhaps a bit surprisingly - still quite clear today, and Taiki had done only a small bit of physical training the day before, so he decided to go to the Beach again for some more training.

The words of the Toritaka and the Kakita magistrate's interest in her mention of spirits made him stop and take a good look at the red sands and the sea. Maybe there was more to that than just stories?...

He shook his head. No use worrying about that. Best he could do was keep alert, and keep strong.

He raised his Ono, his chest and arm muscles bulging in his sturdy training outfit, fixed his footing, and started his regimen of wild, strong swings trying to make the best possible use of his powerful build.

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

Shouji had picked out a section of beach for the part and now members of his crew were marking it off in a vague area where the illusion would be in place.

Which left him a bit of time to himself, walking along the beach he spotted a large man with a large and beging a series of practice swings and he paused to watch. "Getting your workout in?"

The Badger stopped after another series of slashing swings, supported the blunt end of the Ono on the sand, then looked at the man approaching.

"Hai. 'S important to keep in shape, eh?"

He bowed.

"Ichiro Taiki. Plait tae meit ye. Samurai-san also lookin' get a place tae practice?"

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

"I was heading back to my ship." The young man replied gesturing towards the docks in the distance. "But you're right, it is important to keep in shape, and practice is a good way of doing that." He gestured to the Kama he had at hsi side. "This is all I brougth with me though. Which is nothing compared to that greta big axe of yours."


"But I'm ignoring introductions. A pleasure to meet you Ichiro-san. I'm Tsuruchi Shouji, Captain of the Sea Fox." He said before giving the man a polite bow.

"Oh!"

The Badger bows deeper.

"Sorry fer me manners, Tsuruchi-sama. A didnae expect tae meit a Cap'n.

When he finally straightens himself, he adds "Sae... yer ship 's one ay those 'at's been 'anchored at th' docks, eh?"

Then, looking at the Kama. "Well, we each specialise in diff'rent styles, o' course. So... ye fight wi' those then? A think A've heard 'o the style, ne'er seen it used, though. Sae... cap'n Tsuruchi-sama plannin' on practicing now?"

The Captain waved a dismissive hand. "I wouldn't expect to meet a aptain wandering the beach either, so don't mind it." He glanced towards his clothing. "It's not like I particularly dress the part most days either."

"But yes, one of them is mine, the one that's been here longer." The Sea Fox had beaten the Drunken Shark here after all.

"As for practice, maybe? I susually prefer the bow as far as weapons go. I need to work on my skilld with the Kama though. Never know when I might be drawn into combat up close."

The large man nods at the Captain's words, relaxing his posture a bit.

"A see! A've meit a lass yesterday fa said she's workin' in a ship - thinkin' it might be yer'un, then."

"As fer trainin'... we could jus' do some Stance trainin'. 's usually hard to practice serious fights wi' the real thin' fer such weapons, yeah?", he says, shaking his Ono a bit.

"Bu' the bow then. 'A see yer more o' a traditional 'un then, eh?", he says, smiling.

If the Tsuruchi carries no Katana, he doesn't seem to have noticed.... and, maybe because the Kama was the first thing the Captain showed, he doesn't seem to remember the stories about the Tsuruchi family, or to have connected one thing to the other.

"I'm not sure how traditional I am, but i'm not going to argue aganist it either." He replied with a half smile. "If I'm to join you though your right, stance training is the way to go." It didn't matter if the man didn't know much about his family, he was a Badger after all, and likely spent most of his time doing whatever his clan did on the edge of the empire.

Gaurding aganist an invasion that hardly ever came or somethign like that if her recalled. "I'm not a bushi by trainign after all, so any actual fight would likely go far in your favor." With that he drew the Kama from his side and stepped a few paces away from the larger man so they could both have some room.

"Oh. A guess A didnae expect that. Sae... wha' do the Mantis prefer fer their cap'ns then?"

Shugenja would make sense, he thought. But he thought he remembered someone he had met mentioning Shugenja usually had other duties on Mantis ships?

He shrugged a bit, then set back to his own stance again. After some more swings, he stops for a breath and observes the Captain's fighting style.

"Bu' sae, no' a Bushi bu' still trains i en' interestin' style, eh? A s'pose it comes i handy a' the sea tae fight wi' them scythes, eh?"

"It depends upon the vessel honestly, on a warship a bushi as a captain would be preferable. The Sea Fox isn't made for war though." Even if she could fight.

The Captain moved through the paces of his own kata, though it was a simple thing and likely singled him out as something of a beginner.

"They are useful for cutting ropes and the like. It helps too that they aren't terribly expensive. You won't miss it if they go tumbling out of your grip and into the sea." He smirked. "Well you may miss it, but not as much as you'd miss losing that are of yours."

"A see! Tha' makes perfect sense... i its way."

He stopped and observed the man's movements for some more time. His movements weren't particularly practiced, it seemed, but the Badger seemed still interested. After some time, he got back to some slower swings, and changed the subject a bit as well

"Sae... the Sea Fox heer jus' fer the weddin'? Some of ye're relatives o' the bride or groom too?"

"We had passengers to deliever, set up by the clan." He replied glancing towards the badger from his own practice. "They thought it wise we stay and watch the proccedigns while we are here."

"The Mantis count the Crab and Crane both as friends after all."
