An unexpected visit (Day 3 Late Morning)

Shouji moved towards the castle, his cultural attaché Meiko along with them. Certainly it was one of his crew that had disappeared but it was in the bay of this Crab village, so they at least deserved to know.

Arriving at the castle he looked around for a few moments before finding someone to show him to the magistrates office.

Meiko hurries alongside her captain looking unusually downcast, barely a hop or a bounce at all. Even the prospect of meeting a Crab magistrate wasn’t doing much to spark her curiosity.

[Dapper Dog]

The local law man was just beginning his day when the Mantis arrived at his office. He greeted them and said, "Good morning, how can I help you, or maybe how can you help me? Just kidding, but really what do you want?"

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

"Hiruma-sama." Shouji offered the man a polite bow. "Sorry for disturbing you so early in the day, but I've come to report an incident." The Captain replied his tone solemn.

"I woke this morning to hear thar one of my crew members was missing when another went to relieve him of his watch. It was an oddity to me that he had gone missing, the man had always seemed to do his duty impeccably." He glanced towards Meiko. "I asked my priestess here to see if any of the Kami could tell her anything that might have happened. She revealed to me that the man was dead."

"Apparently some creature that inhabits the waters of your port had drug him from the deck of my ship and devoured him. Or that's what the Kami told Meiko-san." He gestured towards the priestess. "I thought it prudent to tell you of this discovery, so you could begin your own investigations into the matter."

"Of course my priestess can tell you more then I if you have any questions."

Meiko nods again solemnly, clearly ready to do her part if required.

[Dapper Dog]

"Death by creature... that's not good, I am going to need you to fill out form 36B in triplicate, unless it was tainted? Was it tainted?" he asked.

"I'm not sure." The Captain replied with a frown. "Perhaps Moshi-san can give you a description and you can tell us your thoughts on that?"

[Dapper Dog]

"Give me the skinny Moshi-san, but it keep it brief. Also be thorough. But concise. Yet descriptive," he said gesturing to a peasant scribe.

"Spare no detail, but please don't bore me."

Meiko does her very best, conjuring up an image of the horrible creature and where the kami said it came from. By the end she’s jumping up and down again, a little vigour restored at the prospect of story telling and maybe some justice.

"Well, that is certainly something... let me run that by the priests," he said leaving the room.

"Wait here, please."

"Okay." Shouji replied simply turning his eyes to Meiko after the man left.

"Do you think thats normal?" He asked after a moment.

“Not at all! But I’ve also never really done this before, maybe it’s a Crab thing?”

"That's what I was thinking." The young Captain replied with a smirk.

"Still I guess we need to wait and see if there is anythng more to do."

A thin woman in dark robes walked in with face paint, white and black to make her look sinister. Meiko can feel a spell being cast and a green light going through both of them. Satisfied the woman said, “This creature, it is at the docks? Interesting. Has it left behind any physical evidence?”

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

"None that I noticed, though I didn't make a extensive search for any either." The Captain admitted after a moment "I set extra watches and told my men to avoid the railings as we look into wards."

[Moshi Meiko]

Meiko gives the thin woman a disapproving look.

[Dapper Dog]

“Get some jade, I can't be sure the creature is of the shadow but it could be. It’s behavior is unlike many creatures we study. They tend to be driven by malice this seems more like a hunter, picking off stragglers. It could still be of the Shadow but if not then Jade won’t do you much good,” she responded.

“Extra patrols are good, we sadly can’t ward the whole bleeding sea.”

The Captain slid a hand into his kimono and produced the jade pendant he wore. "I have some, I'll look into getting mkre though." He replied with a soft frown. He had no intention of warding the whole sea, just his ship.

"Thank you for the advice Kuni-san."

[Dapper Dog]

"Try not to die," the Kuni added.

"It would be a bitch to get your things back to the Mantis."

"I have no intentions to die so soon." The captain replied with a smirk.

"But thank you for the advice." There was a momentspause.

"Is Hiruma-sama going to need us for anything else? Or just to fill out those forms?"

[Dapper Dog]

"There are no forms, he does that to mess with people," she replied.

"I believe he already left."

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

"Well, it seems I owe you another round of thanks." Shouji replied with a respectful nod towards the Kuni.

"Though it seems it's time the two of us are on our way." He added with a gesture towards Meiko.

"Unless you have some questions, Moshi-san?"

"No Captain-sama, I uh, think I understand everything."
Meiko was back to looking worried again.

"Alright then." He said with a nod before turning towards the Crab and dipping into a polite bow.

"Thank you for your help, Kuni-san. We'll be on our way now."
