[Day 3 - LA] Old Man and the Sea

An older man in full battle kit is seated on the deck of the Fox staring at a game of go. He sits on a travel stool and there is a second across from him as he contemplated the game with a gruff annoyed look.

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

Shouji frowned at the strange Crab on the deck of his ship. He wasn't sure who had allowed the man to board or why exactly he was here, it was a matter he should attend to though.

Making his way over he offered the man a polite bow before speaking. "Is there something I can help you with Crab-sama?" He at least assumed the man had rank. Otherwise he likely wouldn't dare.

[Dapper Dog]

"Hrrmph, Yurimasu, I am still puzzling over this setup. The Crane have opted for a pincer, but our scouts and harriers should be able to break the trap yet... I am uncertain," he responded looking over the Go board..

"We cannot lose this ground."

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

Oh, great the man seemed unhinged. Was it better to try and placate him by participating or just getting him off the boat?

Glancing towards the board he frowned a moment. "What are your other options then? Other then to try."

[Dapper Dog]

“I have been told to hold this ground and that is what we will do. The Mountain will not move, our rations are few but enough and if we must the peasants will make the difference. Still our foe is cunning, she will come at us sideways I suspect,” he said with a frown.

“Sit, finish this game. I find my mind more at ease after another sound drubbing by your talents.”

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

Well, he was in for it now it seemed, it was a pity he had no skill at go, but he'd do what he could. Maybe if he beat the man he could convince him

"If the Mountain will not move, then your path is clear. Come st you sideways she might. At least you're expecting it though." Taking the offered seat me looked over the board. "More of that latter though. Was it my move or yours?"

[Dapper Dog]

The man chuckled loudly and said, “Your move obviously, you can see how poor my choices are. We have been in rougher spots, remember the siege at Akibura, that was a hard four months. The Crane came at us like fire ants, relentless sons of bitches. First time I ever crossed blades with Bujeihime, the bitch nearly killed me.”

He smirked at the memory, “That was a good day of fighting.”

Apparently the Captain was indeed not very skilled at go, he did however put some effort into it. "Mmm..." He offered non committedly. He really had no idea what the man was talking about.

"That Bujeihime is that good with a blade then? Think you can take her this time?"

“She is a strong swordswoman and duelist but I am honor bound to meet her on the field of battle. She will not best me this time, and if she does it will buy our forces time to hold the line. The Mountain will not be moved and if it falls it will do so buying time for victory,” he said grimly.

But there is a twinkle in the eye that seems to imply he is looking forward to this encounter.

"There is nothing like having a strong opponent to test yourself against. It sharpens you, makes you stronger." The Mantis confirmed with a grin.

The name of the woman mat of been familiar it was hard to say though. "You're looking forward to this fight, aren't you?"

"I would be lying if I said no, a worthy foe makes all the difference," he responded.

OOC: There is a story he heard while in port about a feud between Doji Bujeihime and Hida Gusari, two commanders who faced off versus each other over a series of years in the region. They fought many battles and ultimately the woman Bujeihime challenged her rival to a duel on the beach and both were said to have died there. She was a skilled fighter and ruthless. Daidoji Yushoko is said to be a direct descendent of the woman.

Oh, great the beach was haunted or something, just what he needed first sea monsters now ghosts. He really hadn't believed the Governor when she had said something. It likely didn't help that the bride might be related to one of them.

"True enough. But what next? After your victory what will you do?"

[Dapper Dog]

"Then this region will firmly be under Crab control, the Crane will have to relent," he said proudly as he continued to outplay the Tsuruchi.

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

"Excellent." Shouji offered with a grin. "It seems you'll have it all in hand soon enough." An exciting thought, right?

Looking at the board he frowned. "Seems you're getting the better of me today. Perhaps it's a sign of your coming victory?"

[Dapper Dog]

"Or you are getting sloppy, well get your kit together and when we next we meet it shall be in victory my friend. Take many heads, give no quarter," he said proudly.

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

"I will do just that." The Captain replied with a grin. "Good luck yourself as well, after all this we can celebrate your victory with Shochu."

[Dapper Dog]

"The good stuff, not that watered down shite," he responded as he made his way off the ship.

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

"As you say, Friend." He called in return, watching the figure leave for a few moments before glancing towards the go board. Was it even there? Or even the stoll?

A frown made its way into his lipscas he stood.

[Dapper Dog]

They were not.

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

Wards they definitely needed wards. He'd need to consult Minari or Meiko about that and see if anything could be done.
