Get It? Wave Man [Day 0, Mid-Afternoon]

[Yoko]

Wind tugged at the loose translucent garment Yoko wore over her similarly light attire. Leaning against the siding of the boat by the stern with both elbows she looked out over the calm waves, hoping for a chance to spot a dolphin jumping. Still, as her eyes were kept focused on that horizon her hand was steadily holding onto her bottle as it was precariously held over the edge. With the other bottle, tied by a small rope, was busy dangling helplessly at her hip. With her hair tied back it was still a mess, but a contained mess. Leaning into the edge with her knee propped up against the boat for some extra support.

It had been time for her break, she earned those now and again. Or at least, there wasn't really anything else to do at the moment. Having been hired onto this little endeavor as an extra hand by the Captain she was rather happy to go wherever the ship was bound. A few extra coins in the pocket and a few days out to sea. New destinations be what they were, it was just a fun idea to get a go at being on a boat. She'd never been on a boat before.

"Never have any luck," she said to the bottle as she raised it to her lips, taking a sip from the contents therein. Watching out on the waves without so much as the sight of even a fin yet.

Nearby an Imperial samurai watched the waves, it seemed like the seas went on forever.

There was so much water.

[Yoko]

As a Ronin was like to wander, so too did her eyes when she grew just a bit too tired of the disappointment in the lack of fins. Finding that Imperial samurai watching the waves she watched her for a moment instead as she quirked a brow. Looking back out to sea she thought on something new for a bit before deciding then and there. Capping the bottle in her hand she returned it to the string, sliding it along into place so that she could claim the other. Uncapping that she took a mouthful, swished the water around in her mouth and swallowed.

Bringing up her free hand she breathed forcefully onto it and gave the air a little sniff, probably didn't help much but she hadn't drank too much either. With the same motion she capped the bottle to hide that little fact and returned that bottle too to the string that held them to her side. Dangling away in the light breeze.

Reaching both arms up she stretched with an audible groan, focusing on one arm and then the other. Linking her hands above she gave an extra little stretch and let them come back down naturally, resting her forearms on the side of the boat as she looked over to the woman again.

If she had words she did not give them. The Imperial glanced at the ronin and gave a slight nod, more to acknowledge that she saw the ronin than a greeting. Her face was calm, but she had not had the best time on the sea unlike Yusuke who seemed to love the rocking.

The sea had not agreed with her and she had felt sick more times than she cared to count. She had thought it was staying indoors that had given her nausea but perhaps it was just the will of the sea to keep her stomach ill at ease.

She would be glad for firm land.

[Yoko]

Sliding over a few steps, Yoko's hand wandered back down to her side and grabbed the water bottle. Stopping nearer the Imperial she undid the bottle from her side, played with it in her hands a little, and then turned fully. Leaning with her elbow onto the side of the boat she smirked, then remembered herself and dipped her head down deferentially.

Raising up the bottle she gave a little shrug, "Water? Samurai-sama?" she offered.

[Ikeda Ishi]

Her impulse would be to refuse the sordid wave-person but she was thirsty and hoped the water would still the battle raging in her gut. She reluctantly accepted and said, “Thank you.”

Was it proper to thank wolves? Her education had not been thorough in the etiquette of dealing with the Lordless. Perhaps the woman would expect payment for such an offer. She felt disgusted at the thought of even dealing with coins like a greedy merchant.

She took a small drink and then handed the water back, “I apologize for the trouble.”

[Yoko]

Giving the woman a little nod, she glanced out to the sea again while she drank. Looking back when the woman apologized, to which she gave a shake of her head, "No need," she took the water back. Pulling up the rope toward the bottle without much thought. "For the thanks, I mean," she said, after the pause. "Just the thing to do," she said, a very-brief-smile.

Thinking a moment as she looked to the woman, Yoko's hands working the rope to secure the bottle to her side once more without so much as a spared thought. Wasn't a dolphin but- "What do you think about the view, if you're not of a mind to mind me askin' all that much," she said with a crooked little smirk.

[Ikeda Ishi]

“It seems like the water goes on forever,” she said considering the words in her quiet tone.

“But the water is filled with ten thousand living things, I am humbled.” She tried to relax but her training kept her on edge and that made her now look at the sea with a more critical eye as if it was going to betray them and stab them in the back. She added, “What do you see?”

[Yoko]

With the bottle once more secured to her side she leaned against the side again, on both her forearms. Glancing around to see if she found any fins, even if she'd mostly given up on the idea. "Guess it depends on the mood," she smirked, shook her head. "I mean, I see water, waves as quiet as it is, but if I give it a little thought, it reminds me of the potential in every moment, every thing. Everything has it's place in the world, and there can be a beauty to each part even if it doesn't seem like it at first glance. Worth experiencing what you can, when you can," she suggested, glancing over to Ishi. "Least that's what mom taught me, she was always better with this kind of stuff."

[Ikeda Ishi]

The Imperial nodded and said, "You sail often with the Mantis, ronin?"

[Yoko]

"Nope," she shook her head. "I'm more like the waves than born to them," she said, looking back out toward the sea. "Better at swordplay than I ever could be at sailing, but a set of hands doesn't do well to be idle so here I am, seeing where the boat takes me," she said with a contended sigh given out toward the waves.

[Ikeda Ishi]

"I pity your lack of direction," she said sadly.

[Yoko]

"Don't pity me too much," she shrugged. "Ronin, to be like the waves," she said. Leaning up so that she leaned off her forearms, enough so that she could make a little wave motion with one of her hands. "Like I suggested before, everyone and everything has it's place. Mine just so happens to wander, and it always reveals itself in one shape or another. Maybe this time it was to be here to offer you a drink of my water, so you could go on and do something better with your time, or maybe it was for us to meet for some unknown reason."

"I don't know, never will maybe, but I trust that nothing's pointless, even the little things, little people."

[Ikeda Ishi]

"To be without purpose," she said quietly. "It unnerves me."

[Yoko]

"Why is that, Samurai-sama?" she asked, glancing over again. Reading the woman as much as she might.

[Ikeda Ishi]

“All ten thousand things of creation have purpose, from the lowest of vermin to the Empress. To exist without purpose is to bring imperfection and fracture to the Empire, ronin are to be commended for their survival but their very existence brings disorder be it through their own failings or chance of birth. You are a blight, that mars the perfection that our Empire seeks to emulate,” she responded quietly.

[Yoko]

"Ah," she looked out toward the sea. Hummed herself a quiet note and then shrugged, "Guess I can't argue with what they teach you. Learned myself that life ain't really all that simple," she brought her arms up again, close to her chest and gave them a little stretch. "Learned to find my own purpose, in lieu of the one I might have been given."

"Can I ask," she started, turned again so that she leaned on the side of the ship with her elbow as she faced Ishi. "If you could chance it. When you look at me, do I seem a blight to you? Do I match everything you've been told to feel about me?"

[Ikeda Ishi]

She looked at the woman carefully and then back out to the sea and responded, "Yes."

"It is no fault of your own, sadly. Perhaps you are merely on the warrior's journey, in which case there is purpose there."

[Yoko]

"Could be," she said, sighed, although she didn't turn back again she too looked out toward the sea but her view included Ishi off to the side even still. "but, honesty implies I should inform you that I'm not. Still.. a fun idea to think on, right? What if I was? Then all of this would be different, and yet it wouldn't be at the same time," she shifted a little, getting a better position for herself on the boats side that was a little more comfortable for her arm.

"Funny how purpose only matters unless someone gives it to you," she shook her head. Separated from the thought with a little sigh, "Something good for samurai like you to do though. See the world from under it all. Gives a new perspective to everything you do."

[Ikeda Ishi]

“Wisdom comes from the Heavens, the Empress is closest to that divine will. I will look above for guidance not below,” she said calmly.

[Yoko]

"Sure," she looked out toward the sea for hope of fins, but it proved equally as disappointing. Shifting over she put her other arm up on the side of the ship and leaned into it a bit. Taking in the scent of the ocean for a moment. "But everyone's above when you take a warrior's journey, soooo.." she let the note hang.

Shaking her head, "Anyway, I'm just another Ronin. Picking my own place in all this mess, eh?" she shifted to lean more on her right arm, finding the bottle with her left. Undoing the rope that tied it to her waist without looking, it took a little doing but not too much. Pulling that up into her hand she let it precariously hang off the side as she kept her lookout for fins. "Don't need to take any suggestions from me," she commented, fiddling with the cap of the bottle with her index finger.

[Ikeda Ishi]

"Perhaps you will find a Lord to serve," she added after a lengthy silence.

[Yoko]

"I've served many," she said, shifting up a little so she could take a proper drink from her bottle. Savoring, letting it settle when she swallowed. "Just always short term and ends with some coin in the pocket, enough to keep going for a little while when I do a good enough job," she shrugged, didn't bother looking back and just kept searching for fins.

For what it was worth, she didn't mean it in a manner to intentionally assault the woman's sensibilities. "But I know that's not what you mean, Samurai-sama. Nothing about it is nice, but I am who I am and you are who you are. End of the day, we each do what we can," she shrugged.

[Ikeda Ishi]

"No, I do not simply act, I am bound by Duty, you are bought by coin, we are nothing alike," she replied calmly.

[Yoko]

Yoko looked down at the bottle in her hands, gave it a little shake. There was a thought resting on the tip of her tongue, one that was starting to itch, but she washed it down with another drink. Savored the drink, let it rest. "Sure," she said, leaning a little more pax against the side of the ship.

"Been out here a while already," she paused, closed her eyes and felt the breeze. Without opening her eyes she asked, "Supposedly you can see dolphins following the ship, even get to watch them jump if you're lucky," she opened her eyes again, gave her bottle a little shake. "Least thats what the Captain lead me to believe when I signed on. Seen one yet?"
