The Unicorn
The Unicorn are the Horde, they are the warriors of the Khan and the chosen of Oturi for her Imperial Legions. The purge of the Kolat after the Scorpion returned from Exile was sudden and brutal and there are rumors of what occurred even within the Clan but the truth is that among the Scorpion, Shinjo herself, rode with them in disguise, to return to an Empire that was upside down. The line of Hantei was dead, her clan and family infiltrated by the Kolat conspiracy, and the Rokugan she knew was no longer recognizable.
For a brief moment she thought to march on Otosan Uchi and set things to right. Under the guise of a ronin named Judgment. She went to the court of the Unicorn champion and observed and then came what the Unicorn dubbed the Long Morning. Before dawn in the dead of winter of 1148, Shinjo, with her Moto allies, fought her way through the guards of the champion and cut down many high ranking Kolat agents. The Champion escaped but his family did not. They were brought before the court and the ronin known as Judgment held court with the support of Moto Gaheris. It was a bloody affair and hundreds were executed that morning before Gaheris was pronounced the new champion and Khan.
Over the next six months Unicorn samurai across the Empire had accidents or unfortunate encounters, if they were Kolat agents or sympathizers well… just coincidence. The purge was never ending but once satisfied that she had done what she could, she turned her sights to Otosan Uchi. As Judgement she attended the court where the Lion presented Hantei Ujio but to her keen eye she found the lineage had become… lesser. In that moment she knew that this was no longer the Empire she had served and clutching the gift of her sister she departed Rokugan, perhaps Doji had the right idea and it was time their children found their own way.
Meanwhile under the leadership of the Moto, the Unicorn sided with Oturi and have used their new role to expand their influence and power. Gaheris is ambitious though and he watches the throne for weakness, perhaps the time is coming that the Khan becomes a Great Khan of all Rokugan.
In recent times the health of Gaheris has started to decline and his children Moto Gaheris and Moto Bayarmaa are poised to seek the title of Khan and despite being blood related, both have the ambitions and ruthlessness of their father. Moto Gaheris is married to a Crane bushi while Moto Bayarmaa has taken a Scorpion husband, and many eyes on this possible future conflict. While Moto Gaheris is the elder of the two and named by his father, many suspect that will not stop Bayarmaa to make a play for the seat as she is more popular in the courts and more revered as a warrior than her elder brother.
