[Day 4 - MA] Lunch Lady Blues
Posted: Tue Oct 27, 2020 11:30 am
by Daidoji Yushoko
At the Blue Bird House Lady Yushoko has decided to hold a luncheon with her future inlaws; Fuboshi and Yoji have arrived and she is there with Kio and her allies in the Crane. This is a small private affair that she hopes will allow them to get to know each other and grow closer after the honored display of the previous night.
Yushoko seems a bit on edge as Kio has been particularly willful this morning saying odd things and not wanting to attend, so she asked for extra help to make sure that Kio behaves. Thankfully everything else seems to be in order.
OOC: Open to three more members of the Crane.

Doji Soon-ja was in attendance, and participated in the polite greetings with Yushoko's future in-laws. The old woman stayed near Kio, having promised the child's mother to look after her.
"There, there, little one," Soon-ja said to Kio soothingly. "You're doing very well so far. If we're able to eat our lunch like a proper little lady, there'll be candy later."

With (partial) knowledge of what was to come, Yuma invited himself to the meeting. After the usual bowing and saluting, he looked at Kio then at the other two:
"Kio's question is very on point I think. Doesn't that remind you of anything? Especially you lady Daidoji?"

"I remember that a young lady acts proper when with her betters," Yushoko offered.

Yuma bit his cheek and turned to Kio:
"Kio, could you tell us how many days ago did the village festival take place?"

"Two days ago, before everyone walked into the sea!" she said confidently.

"I love the imagination of children, so what happened when we got to the sea little one?" Fuboshi asked.

"Well nothing, several samurai stopped anyone from getting hurt," she said in reply.

Sadly, yesterday, he hadn't been able to scope out this room due to missing the meeting. As such if there was any danger, he was unaware of it. As such, he slid open the door and bowed in a... pedestrian manner.

"I remember, Lady Kio."
Especially considering Hitomi tried to kill me last night, he didn't say.

"Well, that's good that no one was hurt, then," Soon-ja said agreeably. Why did that sound so familiar? She wasn't sure.

"If I may, Daidoji-sama, can I ask about the plans for this luncheon? I had to organise a safety meeting prior to this, so I'm afraid I've not been informed of today's plans."

Yushoko said, “I have chosen a five course luncheon that will evoke the mood of spring and rebirth, a light course of shellfish as an appetizer, then a cleanser of mild root broth; this will be followed by a main course of fresh prepared sashimi. I have opted for those cuts and fish that reflect the season, this will be followed by a traditional platter of fried spiced vegetables. The final course should be a sweet cool treat, to refresh us and bring us satisfaction.”
“I call the theme, Fertile Transitions.”

Okay, something needed to be done or problems were just going to repeat themselves.
"Doji Soon-ja-sama, I remember you being quite adept at divination isn't it? Before we start eating, maybe you could do a symbolic prediction? I'm sure the signs will be auspicious after yesterday's greatly successful festival."

"Well, Yuma-san, ordinarily I would be glad to," Soon-ja temporized. "But I wouldn't want to distract from the lovely lunch that our hostess has set for us." She bobbed politely in Yushoko's direction.
"Perhaps after lunch would be better for such a thing; then we can see what the Fortunes have in store for us for the next few days, hmm?"

“That seems more appropriate, this one looks forward to your divinations with joy,” she said kindly.
The servants began bringing out the first course of boiled and seasoned shellfish and ample rice. Yushoko continued, “It is my hope that we all find some small joy here today as we bring our two families together.”

“Yes, just pop out some grandkids and this union will be a happy one. You surely have the hips for it even if you are a bit… older. Won’t be picky, been nagging my daughter for years to give me grandkids, and what has she produced a whole lot of nothing. If she takes any longer I might snatch one of these Crane up and do the deed myself,” Fuboshi replied as she started to eat.

"I.. I am sure that won't be necessary," Soon-ja said, tittering slightly from behind a courtier's fan as though Fuboshi's crude remark were quite humorous indeed.
"I'm confident that Daidoji-sama will, ah, deliver on this matter. And as you can see, she loves children." She smiled fondly at Kio.

must share the recipe with me later, Daidoji-sama."
