by Daidoji Yushoko
At the Blue Bird House Lady Yushoko has decided to hold a luncheon with her future inlaws; Fuboshi and Yoji have arrived and she is there with Kio and her allies in the Crane. This is a small private affair that she hopes will allow them to get to know each other and grow closer after the honored display of the previous night.

OOC: Open to two more members of the Crane.

Being mildly popular singing at the very beginning of things and being well-spoken overall, he received an invite earlier for a small, restricted party with... All the important people, basically. He spends the time before they arrived getting ready for the small luncheon — makeup, his second best kimono set of three different layers of cloth, jewels, perfume, everything like that. When he hears that people had arrived and were seated, he goes to the main hall.
He bows deeply to them all with a smile. "Oh, have you all eaten your rice today, mina-sama?"

Kaneko was also present, always willing to try and create inroads for her family whenever the opportunity might present itself.

She greeted all the others in an appropriate and polite fashion.

"So what is the menu?" Fuboshi offered.

Yushoko said, “I have chosen a five course luncheon that will evoke the mood of spring and rebirth, a light course of shellfish as an appetizer, then a cleanser of mild root broth; this will be followed by a main course of fresh prepared sashimi. I have opted for those cuts and fish that reflect the season, this will be followed by a traditional platter of fried spiced vegetables. The final course should be a sweet cool treat, to refresh us and bring us satisfaction.”

“I call the theme, Fertile Transitions.”

"Those are the most tasteful choices. If I may ask, why did you choose the theme?" He tried to help her get the conversation going. There was a motive for sure, he just doubted the Crab would ask so.

“I was hoping to revisit the… passionate display of the Fertility parade with the transition that comes with marriage. It is a change that every samurai must undergo, just as well must come of age and shed our birth names. I pray that we can see what we have to gain from this future transition,” she said warmly.

"I don't give a shit about transitions, just be sure to produce some grandchildren," Fuboshi said bluntly.

Sometimes he wanted to be the lord of a castle to be able to tell people to straight shut up. Alas, he was not, and the lord here was on front of him. So he did like all the good Cranes do and put a warm smile on his face.

"The phases of life are a cycle themselves... To be born, grow up, train, reach adulthood, marry, then, have children. Of course, the path may change, but the guidelines are the same."

Yoji nodded and said, "I think I understand, so the meal represents our future changes?"

Meanwhile Kio looks bored but is on her good behavior for now as the servants bring out the tea.

This was a question he would leave others to answer. He was just there to save face, as he quickly noticed.

Kaneko had been quietly observing the discussion. Her observations brought her insight on something slightly out of place...

There was an extra person at the table, a little girl next to Kio with greasy long black hair covering much of her face sitting quietly with dirty sea water dripping off her onto the table and the floor.

OOC: This is visible to Kaneko, Fear roll of 2 (TN 15) please.

Kaneko looked to the child and back and forth to the other guests trying to assess if they too saw the child.

Seeing no reaction from the others she said, “I’m afraid we may not be alone here...”

Yushoko responded, “Of course not, Kaneko-san, we have our guests here. Ahh, I see. We must remember that we are not alone as long as we remember our allies and family. Of which I am thankful to consider the House of Fuboshi, both.”

He looks to Fuboshi. They were guests here, and security concerns were about the lord, no? He scans quickly around the room with his eyes after that, trying to find what Kaneko did.

Kaneko nodded simply, not wishing to create a scene needlessly. And looked back to the child.

The child's head turned slowly toward Kaneko twisting until it was looking right at her, the neck twisted far beyond what should be possible for a living girl.

She opened her mouth and low keening begins to erupt and flying insects slowly crawl out of her mouth and begin moving towards Yushoko.

OOC: Kaneko can react and try to intervene most likely causing a Minor Breach of Etiquette or she can do nothing.

Still not finding anything, he nods. "It's tasteful for us to be reunited in such manner. If any of you would like song, I may take my biwa."
He should have brought it with him, he knew it, but left it on his room.

"You're a big one, you got some Crab in you?" Fuboshi asked.

Kaneko began to doubt her own eyes as no one else around her seemed to recognize the child as its head twisted towards her... She had heard ghost stories and worse of things from Crab lands but had no previous experience with them.

If the child was simply in her mind... then perhaps the insects were as well...

The first of them lands on Yushoko’s face she does not seem to notice but brushes her hand against her cheek where it landed and then another and another. They move when she adjusts but land again and try to crawl into her mouth just waiting for her to speak or open her mouth.

It is an unsettling image for Kaneko.

Kaneko turns away from the image and gently pulls up her fan to cover the lower part of her face and any reaction she may have.
