"She was quite sincere in asserting that participants proceed in fundoshi, Doji-sama. And, being as she is the lord of the domain, this one," Yuuwaku places her hand on her chest, "could not question too stringently.

"Kakita-nikutai was also present and spoke with her at greater length."

"Scandalous," he said bitterly.

"Yet if this is their way, we should make a show of it. I will not order any to do what they feel will anger their ancestors. By Doji's graceful rebuke, I may have to write a sternly worded letter to her Lord."

"Unglorious." He adds, softly turning his head to one side, then the other. "If there is no possible alternative in so short of a moment, I may go. All I ask would be for the others of you not to, on this way none shall witness that shame. If we know where her lord resides, one of us may as well travel there first. I have a horse."

"Not more than necessary, in this case, Kakita-senpai. I do volunteer myself if the matter is peace, but I do think a letter to her lord before may avoid many problems."

Yuma guessed that as the only clergy member in the room this was a nod for him to talk:

"Each local religious procession tends to have its own dress code, generally referencing the events that have led to its establishment. I would be curious to know more about the history of this one but I'm not surprised a fisherman village has a tradition of light clothing. I would need to do some research to tell you more though."

Yushoko listened and then said calmly, "We should respect the customs of our host, I would like to see it."

"We cannot garner peace if we don't compromise. That is the purpose of this wedding. I am willing to carry this burden - if no one else wishes to, I will not demand anything of them."

"A procession ... in our underclothes?" Soon-ja drew a fan from a sleeve and snapped it open.

"Oh my! How very racy," the elderly woman said, tittering a little behind her fan. "Still, if the priests say it is traditional, I suppose it's only proper to follow the local customs."

[Kakita Yuuwaku]

Yuuwaku's own fan opens to shield her face. "Perhaps Auntie could be the one waiting with the clothing at the end?"

The tone is light, jesting.

Masao had leaned back, unsubtle in his disapproval of the entire situation, but after some time he leans forward again to say simply: "This is a crude thing, which I think my ancestors would be thoroughly appalled by," You're understating that!, "But, my father sent me here to ensure the success of this wedding, and I will do whatever is necessary to preserve the honor of my family and our clan and the commitments we have made. If it means playing some strange Crab games, so be it." He sits back again, still appearing to sulk but no less committed than ever.
