[Day 2 - EE] Welcome Dinner [RP thread]
Posted: Wed Oct 21, 2020 5:51 pm
by Hida Fuboshi
The dinner is much more austere affair as the Crab and Crane enter by rank and take seats according to importance excluding the bride and groom who enter last and sit at the table on a raised dais as the guests of honor.
Then before the meals are brought out each attending Great Clan will offer a gift to the couple, words of knowledge, and then a display of martial skill to honor the House of Fuboshi. Hida Fuboshi takes the seat of Honor and once all Clans have performed she will announce the meal and the ceremony has ended and the dinner begins.

Saisei is initially present nearby Otomo Yusuke. He provides additional information about the samurai to his master nakodo as they present themselves and their gifts, then circles around if perhaps someone would like to petition something, or simply chat.

Yusuke is thankful for the assistance, remembering names of insignificant samurai was tedious.

Yuuwaku, having attended to such things as needed it, stands such that the young Otomo could see her. She makes sure to make eye contact with the man--
Pleasant enough face and form, she thinks as she looks on him--and taps her closed fan to her lips in a clear gesture of "I would love to talk with you."
But she will not approach him without being beckoned, not without the elder Otomo present. That way lies peril, as all know, and there are limits to her risk-taking in such a venue as this.

At first he passes on not really noticing the smaller Crane among the others, but something hooks his eyes back as he moves on. With a polite stop, he smiles and turns to move toward the maiden.
Once near, he provides a bow and a greeting in a lower tone of voice, so it wouldn't be unkind to those presenting, "Good evening! I hope Inari-kami has been kind, and that the events today have been delightful. I am Otomo Saisei. How can I help?"

Yuuwaku returns the bow, more deeply, and says "Kakita Yuuwaku, of the Academy at Tsuma."
As she rises, she continued. "It was this one's sincere hope to be able to help the enviable Otomo, whose work has doubtlessly done much to ensure that such festivities as this," and she gestures with her fan around the courtyard, "could come to pass."
The corners of her lips rise slightly as she looks up at him. "All should work to assist those who stand so close to the Throne, after all, and this one well knows that it is rarely the efforts of a single person who effect great change in the world."

After providing her gift to Fuboshi, Kaneko found her place in the dinner seating again and politely waited for the food to arrive.

Saisei takes a moment to add face to name and his own annotations. Some renown attached to the Artisan from Tsuma rings back to him as he recalls Yusuke quoting the name to be marked with a special marking. "Kakita-sama..." he automatically maintains his bow, in deference to status, and completes, "It is a great honor to
finally meet your acquaintance. I hope that our mild influence to the ongoing events might have brought cheers between the families and guests."
Once back up from the bow, he steals a glance which she has been fixating moments prior and deviates his eyes to look at his master. He mentions, "Some people are blessed with the light of the Heavens in their path, and it is their duty to act as guides to those that truly bring joy, growth and prosperity."

"Otomo-sama speaks truly; all do well to follow the lights lit so brightly to guide their steps," Yuuwaku replies, following his glance but returning her eyes to him swiftly.
"But Otomo-sama flatters; he suggests that this one is already known to him by report." Her fan slides open below her eyes. "It is hoped that the reports are favorable. One would hate to think they would be otherwise."

Since it is the third time he hears it, Saisei looks down to the ground rather embarrassed. He takes some air to say, "It is not flatter. I apologize if it sounded as such. It is the favor of the Throne that I dutifully abide to and respect. Kakita-sama does shine brighter than many, not only by report."
With an apologetic bow, he incentivizes a correction, "I am humbled, and unworthy of the honorifics Kakita-sama provides. After all, I am a simple assistant, and a young one on that."

He's cute when he's shy, thinks Yuuwaku. And she takes the gentle correction, growing slightly less formal as she replies. "Young, perhaps, but that means only potential yet to excel, Otomo-san, and the promise of achieving it.
"It will be good to see." Her fan flutters in place, and she pivots.
"How have you found the festivities thus far?"

He nods to her statements with certain conviction. To her question, he replies without raising eyes too much for obvious reasons, "I've... honestly had a lot of fun displaying to the audience that huge, well, wood, statue, hanging over my shoulder. Kitsuki Naida-san chanting at the front was a very encouraging lead."

Yuuwaku's fan flutters under her eyes again, and she says "I watched that particular part of the proceedings with some interest. It was an impressive display, certainly, and I appreciated all of the contributions to it."
She stops fanning, lowers the fan a touch. "You seemed to be familiar with the shrine, more generally. A devoted man is a good one to see."

Shitoru was of course present. Prior to the meal he will perform, after all.
He was dressed for such as well, and didn't seem bothered by his simple clothes at such an event. The Crab would just as like spend their time in dojo wear as well.
He found a drink and relaxed.

"Did I?" He almost sucks his teeth, but stops at the pressed lips to mention, rather unsure, "Well. I wouldn't say
familiar. Beginner's luck, perhaps. Yet, I confess I had the surprising opportunity to visit it yesterday. A fisherman pointed to me a path up the hills as the fastest way back to town, and I accidentally ended up meeting one of the shrine's caretaker."

"Oh? And is there a certain someone with whom you'd ask such blessings as the shrine offers? I can hardly think that such a man is alone in the world."
The fan flutters again.
"It is such a hard thing to be alone, after all."

"Actually, not a certain someone. Two people, in fact." He nods confident once again, daring to look up into her eyes for another time, then focus them at the center of what could be called a dais.
"To the bride and the groom." He confirms, still completely naive and free of the dangers of love affairs. The thought of being alone in the world doesn't ring a bell, at all. Perhaps when he grows older, it may.

"A worthy thing," Yuuwaku says as her eyes follow his. They return to him, though, as she continues, and her fan flutters quickly under her chin again. "And may they have much bliss and many children together."
After a moment, she adds "Aside from the shrine, what has caught your interest here? It's certainly different for me--and pleasant, not least because of good company."

He beams up a bit to say, "Well, it was the first time I sailed. So, the Mantis ship and the crew was quite interesting to meet. The good humor and welcoming greetings of the Crane, as a whole. The party yesterday, too. It was quite... exotic. Although, I confess memory gets blurred a bit."
The Otomo smirks a bit devilishly and closes his eyes for a moment to provide an innocent shrug.

She nods. "But the event last night was certainly...stimulating. One wonders how tonight's will be."

Yuma is also in attendance, dressed appropriately but without pomp. He has most probably been assigned a low rank place, far from the dais.

The Scorpion decided to seek a Crane as yet met, as she he had already was busy and he would most like see that night. He approached and bowed politely.
"Good evening, friend Crane", he spoke quite clearly through his mask. "A pleasant eve we have here, and good company this one seeks. Are you busy otherwise?"

Sen, reluctantly, attended. She wanted to swing a sword around, but was sadly not allowed to. So she sat quietly, not really paying attention to the displays. Stupid parties.

The Captain of the Sea Fox arrived a bit later at the event, and most might say he wasn't dressed at all appropriately. He skipped out on the elabroate silken robes he owned in favor of dress that some might suit a Mantis Captain, or maybe just a pirate. A modified hakama, that was a bit foreign in design and a sleeveless vest that showed off his well muscled chest and airs. The clothing was of fine make, in the Green off his clan accented with black and gold. A pair of golden rings decorated this fingers of his left hand, and a jade pendat of suitengu was visible on his chest.
His gaze swept the courtyard as he entered, taking in the others that were there. A confident smile on his lips as he moved forward in search of refreshments.
