Koemi led the way, staying relatively quiet the whole time. "So what is this show for exactly?"

After her failed attempt at communication with Shouji, Koemi blew the hair out of her face. She looked back to Saisei, all smiles, which was never a good thing coming from her. "I don't wear sleeves because it'll weigh me down," she explained, tapping her arms. Then she went down to tapping her legs...

"What sort of performance requires that?" Koemi looked towards the land. "Is there no pond or something?"

She glanced over at Shouji. "Wouldn't the waters be dangerous with all the, well, clothes?" Wink wink.

Koemi made her way over, scratching the back of her head. "Huh? We have a guest?" She gave polite bows to both of them. "What's going on?"

"No, I'll just go to the market." Koemi raised a brow at Meiko, much more sinister than she ever intended. "We can talk later, don't you worry."

"Right, I'll go around the market." Koemi clasped onto her pendant and bowed her head in a silent prayer. Then, she looked to the others and smiled meekly. "Oh, okay, I'll get out of here."

"A sea monster?" Koemi asked, blinking a few times. "Holy shit!"

She coughed, regaining her composure. "How do you know?" She scratched the back of her head. "The kami told you, huh? Is it some servant of the sea angry at us for being at port for too long?"

"Ah, I see...sometimes you just have to bare down and pull?" Tanaka nodded in return, "How did you find yourself performing such duties if I may ask? Born a sailor or adopted by the sea later?"

"Born into it, naturally," Koemi said. "How many Yoritomo do you know who aren't meant for the sea?"

Koemi peered at Meiko. "I don't really get it at all," she admitted.

Koemi barged in as well, wiping sweat off her brow. "I still haven't found any sign of our missing crewmember," she said. "Who could have done such a thing? The Scorpion wouldn't be so bold to pull off this kind of move, would they?"

Koemi woke up to the news that her crewmate was gone again. What sort of profanity was she to yell this time?

"Would keeping watch in pairs work?" Koemi asked, scratching the back of her head. "I can stay aboard for the day, at least."

"You were aboard The Sea Fox?" Koemi asked, a bit surprised. Even after all the time aboard that vessel, she was still acclimating to having outsiders aboard. Her old assignment only took people on with the express purpose of capture and execution. "What did you think?"

"It's hard to stay alive without much to look forward to," Koemi explained. "Not that they don't take their duty seriously. But courage can't come out of pure altruism."

She shrugged. "Little things, though. Like... looking at a plant and thinking it's neat or petting a cute dog."

"I see." Koemi scratched the back of her head. "Is that... appropriate in court? I thought we were meant to be poised all the time to the point of covering ourselves with fans."

She narrowed her eyes. "Are Scorpion merely lazy about doing that?"

"Not personally, though I believe The Sea Fox may have in the past." Koemi looked back at the vessel. "I've only been sailing with her in recent times. I used to be in a patrol vessel."

The Crane's curiosity is peaked. "Is that right? I might ask why, but if you'll forgive me making the assumption, it's probably the same reason that I dislike things like this. Duty leaves little time for frivolous things, hm? And 'parties' can just be an excuse for people to do things they wouldn'...

Koemi scratched the back of her head. "And I thought I was paranoid. Did she already check earlier or something?" She glanced at the captain and then shrugged. "Hopefully she can get to the bottom of this. I'm still voting that the waters are angry at us for some reason."

"Why wouldn't we report it to him?" Koemi narrowed her eyes in thought. "Unless we expect that the Crab are involved? Did I miss some piece of evidence suggesting that?"

"Very pleased to meet you, Yoritomo-san. Do you do all of this often?" he asks, incredulous. "I was going to suggest that your crew more regularly visit my father's court in Samui Kaze Toshi. If you regularly do this... We've been most unfortunate." The Crane sounds genuinely awed, not offended at ...

"Apparently we lost a crewmate last night," Koemi reminded her. She crossed her arms. "It really wouldn't be like him to leave his post like that."
